During the recent economical crisis in Greece, there has been a consistent deconstruction of institutions and values that have characterized Greek society for decades. The National Library, in today’s dire circumstances, seeks to become a point of preservation and revival of these values, in a systematic effort to stress the importance of the intellectual and moral roots that consist the base of Greek culture. The Friends of the National Library Association undertakes a new, complex and difficult role of assisting and supporting the Library’s efforts. Searching for funds and means, organizing events and publications and the initiative for related activities are a part of the implementing goals οf the Library and the Friends of the National Library Association becomes an important partner and an irreplaceable Friend of the National Library.
