More than 70 nationalities make up the foreigners who have settled in St. Dennis, the suburb in the north of Paris between Basilique and Saint de France. From the Bazaars of the Middle Ages to the Industrial Age, several successions of people came, to Saint Denis, often in difficult circumstances, to look for jobs, a roof over their head and a future for their children. 20th century immigration was characterized by interior immigration (principally from Brittany) but also from migration from Italy, Spain and later, Northern Africa and Africa in general and, more recently, from Pakistan, China and countries of Eastern Europe. Different people and different conditions of misfortune are gathering here like the Roms who are reviving the tin cities which Municipal authorities thought were extinct since the 1960s.
